From significant policy changes over the past month to brave women tackling the status quo, She News is your one-stop shop for all things feminist.<\/p><h2><strong>Record numbers of women turning 30 without children<\/strong><\/h2><p>New figures from the ONS show a record number of women in England and Wales are having children later. The data shows half of women born in 1990 remained childless by their 30th birthday in 2020. This is the first generation ever to do so.<\/p><p>Amanda Sharfman of the Office for National Statistics said the delay in childbearing has been steadily rising since a low of 18% for women born in 1941. She added: \u201cWhile two child families are still the most common, women who have recently completed their childbearing are more likely than their mothers\u2019 generation to have only one child or none at all.\u201d<\/p><p>Read more <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p><p><img src=\"https:\/\/images.teemill.com\/frwkvbz5tbytqdm5xoryfzzn8u4kflook1hbmyhiett4hdso.jpeg.jpg?w=1140&amp;h=auto\" alt=\"\" title=\"89592794\" \/><br \/><br \/><br \/><\/p><h2><strong>Strut Safe app launched to help women get home safe<\/strong><\/h2><p>A new app, Strut Safe, has been launched to help women get home safe at night. Founded by Rachel Chung and Alice Jackson following the murder of Sarah Everard in March of 2021, the organisation now has over fifty volunteers. It offers free accompanied walks home in Edinburgh, and a free phone service across the UK, where women and marginalised groups can speak to a volunteer whilst in transit.<\/p><p>The phone line is open from Friday to Sunday, 7pm - 3am, on 0333 335 0026.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/insider\/strut-safe-service-helping-women-feel-safe-night-sarah-everard-b979310.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p><h2><strong>Strict rules for female pupils as Afghan universities reopen<\/strong><\/h2><p>Public universities in Kandahar and Helmand provinces in Afghanistan have reopened after nine months, but students are reportedly in gender-segregated classrooms with dress codes enforced for women.<\/p><p>Speaking to The Guardian anonymously, a source at Kandahar University claimed female students have been asked to follow Islamic dress code. Since the Taliban\u2019s takeover last August, girls in secondary education and above have not been allowed to attend schools or universities.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/global-development\/2022\/feb\/03\/afghan-universities-reopen-with-strict-rules-for-female-students?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p><h2><strong>Proposed law changes to make breastfeeding voyeurism illegal<\/strong><\/h2><p>In January the government announced proposed law changes around taking photos of people breastfeeding in public. The taking of non-consensual photographs or video recordings of breastfeeding mothers will be made a specific offence punishable by up to two years in prison.<\/p><p>Secretary of State for Justice, Dominic Raab said \u201cno new mum should be harassed in this way.\u201d Similar legislation introduced by the government in 2019 that criminalised \u201cupskirting\u201d has led to more than 30 prosecutions since it became law.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsbsolicitors.co.uk\/blog\/breastfeeding-voyeurism-and-common-assault-domestic-abuse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p><h2><strong>Women with pelvic mesh repair complications waiting \u201cin agony\u201d<\/strong><\/h2><p>Women who have experienced complications from pelvic meshes continue to experience long delays in getting treatment, according to MPs. More than 100,000 women are thought to have had a mesh repair to treat pelvic organ prolapse or incontinence before this treatment was paused in 2018.<\/p><p>A network of nine mesh centres was set up in the wake of the First Do No Harm report in 2020, however during a debate in Parliament MPs said the centres are \u201cnot working\u201d.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/health-60244321\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p><p><img src=\"https:\/\/images.teemill.com\/pudiuov23czof1uy1edyu2q8ngpbhgw3fvb1ovgera1nafit.png.jpg?w=1140&amp;h=auto\" alt=\"\" title=\"89592846\" \/><br \/><\/p><h2><strong>Scary Spice awarded MBE for Women\u2019s Aid support<\/strong><\/h2><p>Women\u2019s Aid Patron and former Spice Girl Melanie Brown was recognised with an MBE in the New Year Honours List last month for her \u201cunwavering commitment\u201d to supporting survivors and raising awareness of domestic abuse.
